What people are saying about Simply Skye
What a lovely and long overdue book!! There’s a beauty in, especially in an age when we are (apparently) defined by labels, in simply saying “I am me, and that is enough.”
To focus on the important things, kindness, spirit, and generosity. To not place someone else’s label on another. It isn’t the “team” that you play for that matters, but the acknowledgment that we are all, indeed, on the same team.

Simply Skye is a book for all children, especially those who don’t usually see themselves in children’s picture books. Pamela Morgan writes messages of empathy, acceptance, self-love, and being genuinely who you are! Morgan weaves these into a delightful story of Avi, a child who doesn’t feel good being labeled boy or girl. Simply Skye is a book of love, of understanding, and of not understanding but accepting. I highly recommend this book for all children and families.

Avi and their doll Skye play dress up with Avi’s sister and with Avi’s brother, but the “he” and “she” labels that Avi’s siblings use don’t feel right for Avi. Pamela Morgan’s gentle book addresses gender, pronouns, stereotypes, and is a beautiful model of family love. Heather Bell’s gorgeous illustrations add to the re-readability, as readers will want to see Avi’s family again and again. A lovely book that’s highly recommended for all homes, schools, and libraries!
